1950s Romance

By Maxwell Baumbach

had I been born

in 1950

I would have taken my date

to Big Boy for dinner

then

it would be off to

the Ferris Wheel

at Navy Pier

then

go to the

drive-in movie theater

where we would hold each

other close

as we watch a classic film

but

I was born

in 1990

so

I take my girlfriend

to the dining hall for dinner

then

we will NOT go to

the Ferris Wheel

at Navy Pier

because

she is afraid of heights

so

we will go

to my room

where we will watch

a pirated movie

on my laptop

I actually like

the second one

much better

I heard this poem read on 15 Minutes. This poem is simple, clean and honest. I love it!

  2. Sarah says:

Nice! I liked this the first time I heard it on air and now reading. It’s very visual, almost cinematic.
