Bobbie Troy’s poem Concert in the Lobby appeared here as part of Contributor Series 9: If Men Had Ears in June 2011. About this poem Bobbie says: “I listened to Murray Dunlap on 15 Minutes of Poetry and was very moved by his work and by how he is putting his life back together after a near-fatal car accident. It inspired me to write the following poem for Murray.” A lovely tribute from one talented writer to another.
A Shadow of Myself
(for Murray Dunlap, 5/10/11)
By Bobbie Troy
I look into the mirror
and see
a shadow of myself
a mind turned inside out
then right side in
the past is a ghost
the future is unknown
but I must move forward
carrying with me
this shadow of myself
which is becoming the new me
I love the optimism of this beautiful poem.
I can visualize this optimistic woman looking forward to the next adventure in life. Love it!
As always, Bobbie is succinct and powerful.
Beautiful as usual! It’s as if you read my own thought about myself!
Thank you, everyone. I really appreciate the time you take to comment.
I listend to Murray Dunlap and was quite moved as well. This is a beautiful tribute to his courageous journey back – I hope he read this wonderful poem by Bobbie.
A very “visual” poem: very real
