By Michael Copeland

You have the right to be forgotten
in the scheme of life’s great plan,
with a shadowy sense of
misplaced drama.

There breathes from the writer’s
mind a natural, healthy, elevated
spirit that trails to
oblivion upon passing.

Morbid aesthetics are explained
away and moral energy dissipates,
rendering moot the theories
of admiration.

I’ve dwelt apart in proud whole-
heartedness, amidst the travails,
and have been compelled
to put pen to parchment.
