Afternoon Delight
By Frieda Landau

There’s something decadent about
love in the afternoon. Oh, not
the quickie like Janet Leigh in Psycho
but a slow and leisurely exploration
punctuated by brief bursts of passion
and languorous naps and sips of wine.
Before you touch me, I feel your eyes
caress my body. You hold out your hand
and we sink into the cushions on the floor
(beds are too ponderous for afternoons)
stealing a segment of time for two
until the setting sun pulls us back into the world.

  1. Sandy Patton says:

Frieda, there is a real art to writing love poems. So many cross and/or blur the lines and venture into pornography, while others are just too darn sweet. Yours is absolutely perfect. You paint a sensuous picture that allows us to put our own imagery in it and make it our own. I truly love this one. Sandy

  2. Sharon Poch says:

    Oh yes, my friend!
