Alleluia

Alleluia
By Andrew Badger

Snugly wrapped
in sheet and quilt
head safely buried
in pillows,
my inner voice
sings hymns
last sung aloud
by me with faithful
saints gathered
to praise
Father, Son,
and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia Amen

Each note,
each sentence lifts
both praise
and supplication
like incense
wafting Heavenward
toward the eternally
occupied throne
of the blessed Trinity
who hears the silent
pleas of humble men.
Alleluia Amen

My tongue
now stripped
of syllables
my mind freed
my soul at ease
I tuck the sheet
Snugly around me
and silently slide
into the arms
of Morpheus
the balm of sleep.
Alleluia Amen
