Goldfinches, little dolls of gold
fluttering around the corner of the sky.*
—Mary Oliver
Just the lemon-yellow jartings,
between the branches
of the still-leafless tree,
catch my eye—a half dozen
could fit into my cupped hands.
Two, then three . . . land
as I flip the book’s wings,
sitting on my bed.

Beacon Press, 2004.
(The book lay on my bed.)
Synchronicity—an example.
