Before You

The difference between two eras.

Before You
By Julie Ellinger Hunt

Before you, I didn’t believe.
Trees were just trees. The earth was just something
beneath my feet.
God was just someone foolish, crazy people spoke to when
lonely. Life was just a succession of days filled
with responsibility.

Before you, when clouds parted, only
sun could be seen.
My children were only people I helped to create.

Before you, I was just a body walking blindly.

Now my direction is you.

Now the trees are an extension.

Earth is the bed I lie upon to be by you. To feel you near me.

God is possible and very likely or how else would
I have found you among all these un-yous?

Life is now, and tomorrow and five years from next week.
It is forever until it isn’t.

Now the sky is our blanket and when the clouds part, it is
your face I see.

My children are cherubs holding my heart in their hands.

And now I am me.
