It's just poetry, it won't bite

Black Friday

El Ingenioso Hidalgo is the most recent poem by William C Ross to appear here. The humor in the poem today underscores a broader point about what some have started referring to as a tradition.

Black Friday
By William C Ross

She set the alarm for an ungodly hour
And headed for the stores.
She beat the others to the mall
And helped bust down the doors.

She maxed out thirteen credit cards
Before she had the stroke.
She couldn’t be stopped,
Just shopped til she dropped,
And thus never heard
A single glowing word
Her friends at the funeral spoke.

O the folly of that fateful day’s dash!
In lieu of flowers, the family accepts cash.
They are grateful for even the smaller amounts.
Someone has to pay off those charge accounts.
