As a Boy
By Laura Zucca-Scott

When you were a boy
Your eyes were soft
You smiled easily
And laughed without fear

Now you are a man
Taller and stronger
But I cannot see your eyes
Marred by anger

I wonder what happened to you
The injuries you suffered
I wish I could still see the boy
Who forgave and cared

If life is just a dream
Passing by
I hope you will feel compassion
And your eyes still hide
That same smile
