Consideration
By Jeffrey Smyers
You threw my doubts
Brittle bones that they are
Over your shoulder like a ritual
One, one thousand
Two, one thousand
The sound spilled like beggars
Plain and repetitive on crowded streets
Something to tune out and avoid
Three, one thousand
Four, one thousand
Hours later, the cat would lick
The dry bones at the base of my pedestal
And I’d stop counting the seconds before you apologize
Love the imagery.
