The Day We Know as 9/11
By Anna Alpine
(written September 2009)
The writer was in Bergenfield, NJ on 9/11.

It was a day of new beginnings.
My daughter started preschool and my son was off to first grade.
It was a day of heavenly beauty.
The sky was bright blue with soft clouds and the sun warmed my skin.
It was a day of horror.
Lives lost and hearts shattered.
It was a day of lost innocence.
We are no longer safe.

Anna Alpine’s poetry (Sense the Moment) has appeared in vox poetica in 2009.
