Contributor Series 11: On Birthdays
Scrapbook
By Robert Cory

Scrapbook photos.
Mounted moments
chronologically cramped,
crushed & yellowed.
Others marred,
creased by careless fold.
Frozen in black & white.
Posed?
Maybe yes. Maybe no.
Pomp & ceremony someplace.
Birthday mugs
for the camera.
Groups, picnics, places, pets.
Formal. Candid. Awkward.
The dead, the living,
the unknown … some of whom
have come unglued.
Random bookmarks.
Whims of history.
Yes. I remember you,
him, her, them, and it.
Reconstructed memories.
Lately, in pixels.

Robert Cory’s most recent poem to appear here was This Side of Nordkanalallee, published as part of Contributor Series 10: Silken Rag in December 2011.

  1. Someday they will extinct. We have so many. Thanks for the memories.
