Contributor Series 3: Resolution and Resolve
Homelessness … it’s real
By Jimmi Ware

They smile to keep from crying out loud
Faceless wandering in the downtown crowd
Trying to regroup from the bittersweet
In need of shelter, a nourishing meal to eat
They are afraid and pretend to be tough
When the truth is being homeless is rough
This is no laughing matter
Please refrain from staring and idle chatter
A child on the streets is no fairytale
It is a nightmare and we must prevail
Wake up to this painful truth
We must not ignore the exodus of our youth
To err is human, to give is divine
What if that homeless child was yours or mine?
Do something while there is still time

Jimmi Ware’s poem My Words appeared at vox poetica in 2009.

Yes, it’s real and very depressing that this country cannot take care of its own
    people.

  2. Sarah says:

I smile each time I read this line, “To err is human, to give is divine.”
