Yes,
it’s that time of year when some of us set out to improve ourselves. Or
not. The turn of the calendar represents the turn of a page, and isn’t
that something all readers and writers can relate to? Let’s start
Contributor Series 3 with a sweet and fun poem, most definitely well
intentioned, by our resident 8th-grader writer, Gianluca D’Elia. Please
join me in keeping a good thought for his New Year’s Resolution.

Contributor Series 3: Resolution and Resolve
Resolution 2009
By Gianluca D’Elia

This year I’ll be better at math
And get off my lazy ass
I’ve been writing too much to realize
That there are formulas I should memorize
It’s time to do better, to buckle down
Even though it might make me frown

This year I’ll be better at math
I’ll follow the correct path
I think I can do it, I just have to try
Maybe my skills will never die.
I’ll do better in math this year, you’ll see!
Even if I just get a B

Several of Gianluca D’Elia’s poems ranging from the serious to the silly have appeared at vox poetica; his most recent work was Note From an Obsessed Glee Fan.
