Aloha

By Jessie Carty

Insert Key. Turn. Pull. Push. Locked. The ritual of safety. Drop keys on table. Open and close the refrigerator door, thinking 1–this time I’ll see the light go off 2–this time there will be something new inside. Sesame Street logic. Abierto. Cerrado. Sounds close to Alberto and Grenada. A person. A country. A man. A plan. A canal. Panama. In the morning reverse it all. Closed as a starting point. A palindrome of consistency. Goodbye and Hello. Aloha.
