Contributor Series 8: Feast and Famine
Your Repast
By Bobbie Troy
i no longer
gorge myself on your soul
i no longer
feast upon your body
i no longer taste
your lingering lips
i no longer feed
upon your repast
i bear my loneliness
like an empty plate
that carries your shadow
to my table
Bobbie Troy’s poem Old Bones appeared at vox poetica in December 2010 as part of Contributor Series 7: The Confessional Diary of Bone.

Heartfelt.
Interesting poem. It is a combination of anger and lament. I really enjoyed it because anyone who has loved and lost can relate to it. The phrasing is perfect. Great job.
I admire your blossoming talent. Way to Go…..
can also be interpreted as losing someone not necessarily in death…very complex, makes you think
I like how visual and sensual the images are, as well as the somewhat gothic tone. Your economy of language also makes your poetry very powerful.
I find the alliteration of “L”‘s wonderful! It creates this echo that adds so brilliantly to the haunting qualities of the poem. Great poem!
Thank you, everyone, for your kind words.
How powerful the lines,
“i bear my loniness
like an empty plate”
I sense your talent has long-since come into full-bloom and will contiue to engage the world.
Love it, but it begs the question. To what extent does having had the feast help us weather the famine?
You beautifully evoke the sense of loss and grief. Excellent.
Thank you, everyone!
Wow! Again, intense imagery with few words.
You have such a gift, Bobbie. And we are all the richer for it. This is one of my favorites to date.
