Contributor Series 9: If Men Had Ears
Sleep
By Nate Spears

Music to my ears; the sound of sleep
I’m so, so tired,
Fired by rest, employed by tired
Boom, boom, my heart beats; the noise it makes,
It’s keeping me up, silence;
I can’t sleep, shut up!
A million thoughts a minute, keeping me up
Over active,
Reins rest; I need it
Boom, boom goes the sound of my heart
Like music,
I can’t sleep.

Nate Spears’ most recent poem to appear here was Sixty (April 2011).
