Deaf People Say Huh
By Steven Minchin

I like you the most
on Sundays the week falls
behind Phoenix, between the buildings
on the second floor smoking
we turn the chairs round
to watch the graffiti
as you and Kevin bring back days
with lips like flip books
copyright Breton, Paris 1924

……….It was October
……….the day my dog died
……….we agreed not to sleep together
……….at Oh Bar
……….no! online
……….it was September
……….in a plume of Boeing Skyscraper
……….I’ve known you forever

I ask you the most
at three the night hides
deep in Lulu, intimacy and rebuff
hit the floor swiftly
mute moments come round
to mouth the connection
rapid wet silence leaves you
hearing Romanticism rise
we bare gesso tipped brushes and imitate

……….L’enfant vit ici
……….avec mon coeur voile
……….when you speak to me
……….I’ll horde your hearing
……….as the brush of my hand
……….speaks fluently
……….in sweeps of vulnerability
……….says four senses is all we should be
