Dear innocent past,
By Christina Cruz

You already know that people don’t live forever,
but that heavy weight has still not set within you.

It will not last forever.

One day you’ll draw a bird,
but this bird’s eyes will pierce your soul.
It remains motionless in air,
as if time stopped itself.

This by far will be the worst week of your life, You’ll realize
that always a box waits for you six feet under.

There is no way to escape the end. And what hurts the most is that
you’ll have to see others reach the finish line before you.

You’ll cry for those you haven’t lost and worry what
will happen to them. Your screams and wailing become so piercing
angels in heaven cover their ears as to block out your misery.

Giving you hugs but their warmth always leave and
You turn cold again. You always return to the picture.

You’ll trace the lines you drew with your finger.
The bird’s green, blue, and orange feathers
will remain etched in your mind.

Almost as if you could only sense its dark magic,
that no one else understands

Love,
Knowledgeable future
