cages floating past
By Hope Hearken

cages floating past
sailing down river
caught a glimpse
of three trapped

shadow of unicorn
lion-headed horse
red zebra no arms

and a man with horns
waved away the light
dark forest covered sky
and the animals sighed

heard cracking, splashing
saw fire rise from water
and a second man
as bright as sunlight
walk across lava
returning the dawn

the battle started
the monsters gathered
god will not be tested
