Fancies
By Nick Talent

a mask over her face
a scarf, maybe
concealing her hair,
eyes, but displaying
the smile on her lips
like a frame

I had all kinds of ideas
about her, who she was,
what she liked,
what she might
really like

and then the sun
shifted, the mask
melted, shadow
lifted, she became
an instant of
another life

Lovely and ethereal. Thank you for this poem, Nick. It gave me the sense of a glance and then a double take on the world.
