Fiddlehead
By Katherine Glatter

I am
curled inward
one point

dark green leaves and
dense roots

light the way

parts of me are so deeply planted
that even I can’t uproot them

embryonic paisley

unfurling
uncurling

I am born again

Hi, Jeanne. A fiddlehead is the edible, curled head of a fern. It looks weird but is delicious. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiddlehead_fern
