For A Time
By Amber F. Vinicrombe
He was a trapeze swinger
For a time
He was a tightrope walker
For a time
Who was I to know
Which way he’d go?
I was posed
Poised
For a time
Wide-armed beneath an apple tree
An open- mitted catcher’s squat
For a time
I was ready for his gravity and stinging speed.
When I wasn’t looking
He slipped into the moonlit mist
White into white.
This is vivid and mysterious, concrete and ethereal, heavy and light, a little poetic miracle.
