Fruit
By Cassie Premo Steele

I pull peaches
from the trees
and you say,
Put them in jars.
And I say,
What for?
The trees will
grow more.
You will, too.
Eat all you want.
There is no lack
to what you
can have.
Watch the trees
and learn
this fact:
fruit comes
every summer
wet and sweet
plump and more
than enough.
Get fat on fruit
again and again.
