Last Day in La Plata, Argentina
By Max Reif
I go out on the street.
Though the air
is still cool,
sunlight falls sharply
upon every object.

I don’t want
this beauty to shatter.
The days here have been perfect,
but this the last day
with the certainty
of boutique hotels.

Tomorrow I leave
to visit  my shaman friend
in her grass lodge in Peru.
No telling what
that will be like.

Nothing can protect me
from time, and
its handmaiden,
change.
