Midnight Supper Morning
By Judith Cody

You walk
toward me
with certain care
slow
step each step
preserves
your intricate balance

You offer
your extended maleness
to me

As though
you carry
a heavy tray
laden with cakes
tall-stemmed crystal
filled to the belltone
with ripe Claret

As though
you must not
spill a drop

until you
reach me.
