Mike Perkins’ poem One Afternoonappeared here last August. These are both love poems that paint beautiful pictures.
My Mom
By Mike Perkins
was born in a log cabin
nestled in a long valley
on a Missouri homestead
and still lives less
than five miles away
never finished high school
but finished everything else
like a family
which she loved
without question
never learned to drive
yet, from scratch
can make a skirt or dress or quilts
can beans and beets and pickles
bake homemade apple pie and bread
survived breast cancer
two knee replacements
and me
Beautiful, loving poem.
Lovely tribute, Mike.
Mike, to me the last stanze, particularly, the last line,
“Survived cancer
two knee replacements
and me.”
are so strong. Thank you for sharing! Jean
