It's just poetry, it won't bite

No Horizon Will Hold Me Back

10.23.09 Posted in words to linger on by

Shelby Wedelich writes in Lake Jackson, TX. Her poem speaks the language of youth and the story it tells is of standing in the space between child and grown-up, energized and hesitant all at the same time. It is the story of youth looking forward, not the story of youth as told backward. As you read it, send your thoughts out to those standing on this very brink that they may know the support of those that came before them.

No Horizon Will Hold Me Back
By Shelby Wedelich

Why is there a line
Between the sky and sea?
When what it defines
Is defiance of limit

The world doesn’t end
We just see it all
But don’t think to look again
At what we think we’ve seen before

No horizon will hold me back
From chasing all my dreams
I’m off the beaten track
To make my mystery
No one can catch me now

Time slips through my fingers
I stopped counting long ago
It races then lingers
A force none can tame

I dare to go
Where none and all have gone before
How else will I know?
How else will I find?

No horizon will hold me back
From chasing all my dreams
I’m off the beaten track
To make my mystery
No one can catch me now

Plunging in feels so right
Diving in the fray
Never thinking twice
About what lies in wait

Riding the storms
Guiding me
Until I feel otherwise
Either way I am free

No horizon will hold me back
From chasing all my dreams
I’m off the beaten track
To make my mystery
No one can catch me now

Rebel with a cause
I know there’s something more
And I trust in God
To see me through

Seek and you will find
It might be a battle
But He’s with you all the time
In spirit, heart, and mind

Breathless
Hopeful
Fearless
Knowing that

No horizon will hold me back
From chasing my dreams
I’m off the beaten track
To make my mystery
No one can catch me now
