Original Sin
By Christine Taylor

Sit near the dark pond
nestled among the trees
where the heads of water lilies
seize the sun, the stems
beneath tangled
assaulted by creatures
who have their own interests
at heart. Witness a dragonfly
skim the surface, be consumed
by an ugly fish. Feel lilies
radiant in the sunset.
