Over
By L Ward Abel

She went quiet.
There were
photos left
on the table
between us,
photos of
back-forties
and shortgrass
and uplands
and creeks.
A map was
placed beside
those similes too.
She went quiet.
No quiver
or tears
or furrow.
I felt out-
landish, a
stranger, a man
with no
credentials.
