Phases of Fire
By Frieda Landau

The fire is banked
No longer springing into flame
At a glance, a kiss, a caress
Conflagration searing the flesh
Burning the self to ashes
Until quenched by sated desire
Waiting for the next flareup

The fire is banked
The embers no longer spark
Yet the right tools in experienced hands
Cajole and coax and tease so
Flame burns bright and long
Till passions peak and swell
