Purpose
By Howard F. Stein

What is the purpose
for my heart to beat
if it’s not for you?
What is the reason
for my heart to break
if it’s not over you?

Every Don Quixote
has his Dulcinea
he hopes will appear
to him in the flesh.
And what Dulcinea
does not have her Quixote
who she hopes will quicken
out of thin air?

Who is not made of clichés
waiting for their moment,
and be clichés no more?
