Some Good Things
By Molly Frederick

Golden bright—the dawn of morning
Golden deep—a sunset, slowly subsiding
to bathe at length in the river,
now transformed to antique gold.
The golden shadows trapped inside
a cougar’s gaze.
Minute fragments, rich in gold, marbling
the moist shining in the eyes of frogs.
So too, the precise golden stripe gracing
a fleet, slim snake—that flash of metal
glinting in the grass,
before the pathways close.
Treasures: Here on earth; so much gold.
