Soon.
By Julie Ellinger Hunt

Like the prettiest tidal wave, you came and swept me out to sea,
swirling forces in harmonious circles, bringing me closer to your innards,
your deepest depths, your . . . everything.

I had come prepared while on that beach awaiting you.
My caged heart, the key around my neck, a fortress of the version
of myself you will likely find appealing or disgusting. I can never decide.

I brought you treasures despite your protests. And when you came,
like the lightening bolt you are, you examined everything. Every crevice. Looking for the key. I couldn’t decide where to hide it or if I should.

Buried in your trenches is my reflection on the shallow puddles. We forget who we are or why this is and just fall. The water concedes, allowing our skin to finally touch and the moon to finally light up what has been so dark for so long.
