Stepping Out
By Patrick Theron Erickson

A new wind
stirs the deepest roots

and brings new leaves
to bear

gathers the old ones too
and binds them as one

turns over a new leaf
turns over every stone

though not every stone
is a sure stone

a touchstone
tried and true

not every stone
is a stepping stone
to be sure

but those that are
will do.
