The Accident
By Andrea Varga

They have many injuries
some of them the same,
injured to their bodies, souls
and also to their brains.

They met unusually,
through Internet and faith.
Their love is not blind
like they often say,
it grows from suffering and pain;
it’s not only a flame.

The agony of brachial plexus injury
is an intense pain . . .
Walking from the car requires a cane,
as the balance is unbalanced
inside of the brain
falling so often for no reason,
and then falling again.

No one understands the pain
in a body looking healthy.
But the two of them see
that those without pain
are truly wealthy.
When she cries in distress,
health is wealth indeed, says he.

They treasure their lives
despite reduced ability,
they are in love with one another,
even if not fully healthy.
Because love blooms
in the most beautiful of souls.
Even if they are damaged,
and mutilated, they are strong together,
and from their spirits
a green-blue flower grows.
