The Flower Lady
By James McGurk

The flower girls in Paris
are so chic
with their Eiffel Tower
in the background.
And in San Francisco
it’s a must
to wear them in your hair
on the trolley
while in Coconut Grove
glass sidewalk tables
and cafe con leche
accompany tiny vases.
And in Larimer Square
Downtown Denver
little shops sell them
preserved as paper holders.
But in New York’s
Big Apple
roses are best
when carried by hand
and all this is so romantic.
But then the world
didn’t see you
yesterday wearing a small
black jacket
Levi’s
wildflowers in your hand
and a smile
that  bloomed
in my heart.
