The History of the Present King*
By Patricia Asuncion

Beyond shallow distinctions
of skin shade and gender folder,
they rise head-and-shoulder equals,
endowed with birthrights, beyond recall or regulation
without their voted consent.

The watch-dog government
is leashed by the people to protect
their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness,
obedient to demands of a diverse nation.

Despite a history of dutiful canines,
the present lead dog is defiant to the public’s calls.
There is a long train of abuses and usurpations.

Public dollars line his pockets for private
golf, hotels and investments without the consent of the governed.

Tweets and orchestrated rallies are used for the sole purpose
of fatiguing (the People) into compliance with his measures.

Travel bans are designed to obstruct the Laws
for Naturalization of Foreigners and (discourage) their migrations here.

Education, science and environmental laws are gagged
by a multitude of New Offices to harass our people.

Big business breaks are given by imposing Taxes
on us (the working poor) without our Consent.

Deadly demonstrations excite domestic insurrections amongst us
color, creed, politics fueled by his extremes.

Repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury.
Such a Tyrant is unfit to be (the protector) of a free people.
In the name and by the Authority of the good People
(we) are Absolved from all Allegiance to this beast.
