The Way

was a straight shot through a metal detector;
at the end, the windows read:

1. Marriage Divorce
2. Adoption Birth
3. Traffic Violations
4. Traffic Violations
5. Criminal

People were lined up for each;
there were no chairs or number tabs
like when buying license plates

Death did not have a window but we
wouldn’t be standing in line–would we?
