Today
By Cassie Premo Steele

Some days you wake up and it’s
morning and the sun comes
running like he’s on a race track
and the oval is all he can
handle over and over in
the same circle and you join
the wheel like a hamster
coffee commute school work
clock rush late early be
somewhere for the duty
or the money and the day
ends much the same home eat
drink numb watch laundry
bedtime alarm sleep toss turn
but not today because yesterday
on every body of land on the
planet women gathered our bodies
and marched laughed sang
listened spoke stood held
hands hugged loved each
other and ourselves like
we always wanted every
day but finally did and so
every day after is today.
