Tuesday Afternoon
By Cary Lynne

uncomfortable heat
windows cranked
summer breeze
writes its signature
in slow waves

wrinkled sheets
pale blue light thread
splayed half on the
dark brown
warm wood floor

mingling scents
rise from fluffed white pillows

sweat beads
like pearls
on tanned taut skin

screen door slaps
somewhere down the street
where children cast peals
across blue skies

late afternoon deep
in the summer of August
the orange sun throws wide stripes
across the bedroom wall
and maybe a baby is made
