Uncertain gift

Uncertain gift
By KK Singh

I made this pendant
with you in mind,
bits of colored glass
fused together.
Now I see it is delicate,
pretty, but inconsequential.
What will it mean to you?
I fear it will mean
all that hasn’t been
all that isn’t enough.
Rather than beauty
you will see frailty.
You will see a trinket
that does not compensate
for wasted time.
I fear you have made
up your mind.
I can’t go back in time.
My words and actions
fall short, mean little,
my intentions merely
inadequate things,
fragile things,
gifts that break
and confirm all
that is broken between us,
gifts that cut you,
turning emotional hurt
literal, tell the story
of how things went wrong.

  1. KC Bosch says:

I like this a lot, not the hurt, but the way it is expressed.
