Uneasy World
By Kayode Afolabi

I’m the fledgling who flew off
On knowing our kind needs no parachutes . . .

I meet less space in the firmament
Than in our little nests

Missiles climb at me
Raindrops drown my wings
I run at the thought of falcons

In my respite, I sniff at tears—
The world sure smells
Like empty trees with thorny nests
