Unrecognizable
after Christina’s World by Andrew Wyeth
By Alexa Findlay

she lies upon
the sea
of dead grass
clothed in
a salmon
pink dress
and her silky
raven black hair
tied into
a messy bun
her face
unrecognizable
to the viewer
looking upon
her old
farm house
contemplating
whether she
should run away
or go inside
and endure
the beatings
and spankings
once again
from an
angry man
who married
her mother
long ago.
