Monica Crumback’s work has appeared in numerous publications including Brain, Child: The Magazine for Thinking Mothers, Hip Mama, and mamaphonic.com.
She lives in Michigan with her husband and daughter. Her use of imagery
in this poem begins with convention and veers off into the unexpected,
taking the the simplicity of a ritual and adding the complexity of a
relationship to it.

Vows
By Monica Crumback

i
will

grow
old

until

your
wiry
nest

hatching
eggs

dry

from
my
mouth

tell
me

would
you

grow
old

too (?)
