It's just poetry, it won't bite

Waiting for …

James G Piatt shares a beautiful nostalgic poem on this early fall day.

Waiting for …
By James G Piatt

Summers, winters, autumn, and fall,
Painted into my memories, tugging
At my mind, creating a misty nostalgia:
Lost toys, misplaced relics, broken seashells,
Christmas presents, birthday cakes, Easter
Eggs, weddings, picture albums, vacations
At the beach, rivers, parks, and lakes.
Children being born, children having children,
Graduations, jobs, special dinners, coming home,
Going away, health, happiness, sickness, worry.
All of life seems to vanish in the twinkling of an eye.
So many years of memories saved in cardboard boxes,
Poems unwritten, and all those songs still faintly
Lingering, lingering, lingering in my fading mind
Waiting for …

  1. I love this. It sums up our existence in a beautiful poetic thought.

  2. Jeanette Gallagher says:

Love this poem that resonates with me and probably many others. It’s just life in general but its what we do while we wait. I don’t know why we wait – we just do.
