Waking Without You
By Sandy Patton

Drifting along in a dreamlike haze,
time hovers as if suspended.
An idyllic nirvana,
a brief respite before
my private demon,
reality,
shatters sweet
slumber.
First
light
sucker-
punches me.
I gasp your name,
my voice raspy, hoarse
with all-consuming grief.
Choking on its vile vapor,
I curse the dawn, as another
day of waking without you begins.

Days we all fear. Toughing poem.

Jeanette, once again, thanks for your kind comments. It is, indeed, something we all must face one day, and dread when the dream becomes reality. Thanks, again,

  3. Bobbie Troy says:

    Very intense. Good job.

    • Sandy Paatton says:

Bobbie, I thank you very much for taking time to read and comment. Appreciate your kind words. Sandy
