What’s Your Brand of Loneliness?
By Dianne Deloren

What’s your brand of loneliness?
Do you wear it like a tall, silly
Cat-in-the-Hat style hat,
Hoping no one will notice?
(Or hoping maybe someone will?}
Or do you wear it like a trick flower
In your lapel, that will squirt
In someone’s eye if they come too close?
Or maybe like a worn sweater vest
That has seen better days?
It fits you so darn well
But it should have gone to Goodwill
Long ago.
Or maybe you wear it like a wig,
A cheap Halloween style wig?
You’ll look kinda strange
But you can always claim chemo.
They’ll nod their head and sigh,
Then walk on by.
Maybe you wear it like a down coat in July?
People will look sideways at you
And wonder why, but they won’t ask.
But that’s the way you like it, after all,
Isn’t it?
