Writers are wild fruits
By Cassie Premo Steele

I think writers are wild fruits.
They hang on the vine, juicy.
They are lonely, longing to be
bitten. They have so much
sweet inside, hidden. If you
brought this fruit to your
lips, it would spill from your
mouth to your hips. Your
fears would be forgiven
as your throat grows wet.
No dream would be forbidden,
you could have all you want
to get. Reader, you are the
seedbed for this fruit. You
feel it growing in you, the
first green shoot. You want
to hold the blossom and the
root. You own this garden.
Farmer, beekeeper, harvester
and holder of all words
and promises once forgotten.
