Fancy You
By Ivan Jenson

You won’t be free
but wheeling
slowly in a chair
and you won’t
be sung to
painted
or
flattered
except by
orderlies
and nurses who
will wait
on your every
need yet never
give you
what you want
which will be
all that you spent
so frivolously
yet wisely
in the peach-tree
springtime when
you blushed
like a child of
Empress
youth

Ivan Jenson’s poem Watercolour Guitar appeared her in June 2011 as part of Contributor Series 9: If Men Had Ears.

I liked this very much, few words, drizzles down the page very effectively. But when I got to “peach tree springtime” I knew I would read this several times. It gets sweeter with each read, like a fresh mango! Your love comes through the sorrow. Good work.
